My comment:

No, it was a failure by the UK political elite and 99+% of the UK populace, then and even now, and ALL NON-ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN COMMENTATORS to recognise the validity of the 24 part Anonymous Prophecy of Mount Athos of 1053, especially part 13: "England for the Saxons only".

This includes you. I have mentioned this many times in my comments on this and other secular or simply non-Orthodox Christian, channels, without ANY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.

The only way to have avoided the UK and Gibraltar leaving the European Union via a hard Brexit would have been to have negotiated a hard opt out, specifically for ENGLAND, from free movement within the Single European Market, which Mount Athos has within Greece´s 1981 Accession Treaty to the European Communities, amongst its guarantee of Mount Athos´s continuing complete autonomy, inherited from its foundation under the (Eastern) Roman Empire over a millenium ago. The Mount Athos option was floated by the New European newspaper after the 2016 Referendum, but with no mention of this prophecy whatsoever.

This could have been fulfilled by exercising a veto on all reforms of the EU and other acts, such as the entry of new members, which require unanimity until such time as an opt out for England to free movement was obtained. A PERMANENT OPT OUT. England, like Mount Athos, could then have continued to benefit from full access to the other 3 freedoms of the Single European market. Keeping full EU membership. Nigel Farage has acknowledged that, had the UK obtained such an opt out, Leave would not have obtained a majority in the 2016 Referendum, and thus there would have been no exit from the EU for the UK and Gibraltar at that point.

Liechtenstein, an EFTA and EEA member state, has exercised just such an opt out which it has under the EEA Treaty, as do all other EFTA member states. EU member states, however, do not have this opt out.

Leaving the ECHR and other international conventions, such as the UN Refugees Convention, as well as depriving all non-UK nationals of the right to claim Social Security benefits, would be further fulfilment of this prophecy. As would Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and even Cornwall leaving the UK and all overseas territories going independent, or at least having their citizens deprived of any automatic right to settle in the UK, which would, incidentally, also be fulfilment of another Orthodox Christian prophecy, of 1910, of St. Aristocles of Mount Athos and Moscow (+1918) which includes the following: "Britain shall lose its Empire and all its colonies and come to almost complete ruin, but be saved by praying enthroned women", which some (non-Orthodox) commentators have claimed included the heterodox and therefore heretical Margaret Thatcher, whose funeral was presided over by a woman "Anglican priest" I used to know, a fellow brain injury survivor and former member and trustee of Acquired Brain Injury Forum for London (ABIL).

It is even possible that, in further fulfilment of "England for the Saxons only", all those who do not have provable 100% Saxon descent could be deprived of the right to live in England. This could even include everyone from outside of the earliest boundaries of the ancient Kingdoms of Wessex. Essex, Sussex and Middlesex, which even includes southern London, Kent and the Isle of Wight, which would leave a rump southern England which would, crucially, however, include the City of London. My ancestors from within what became modern England are, as far as I am able to trace them, from the Isle of Wight, which was conquered and settled by the Jutes, not the Saxons. And from Nottinghamshire, and Lancashire, which were conquered and settled by Angles from the Engeln area of Schleswig-Holstein, on the borders of Germany and Denmark. Though born in London, in Hammersmith, north of the Thames, I might not qualify. I am certainly not pure, let alone majority English, never mind Saxon, by descent. This is where things could end, if the prophecy ends up being fulfilled in its purest form. Being aware of this is to be forewarned about it, and thus to have the potential to stop its most extreme fulfilment.
